A Petition from Goffstown Residents

Keep the County Jail
Out of Goffstown

Hillsborough County is considering moving the county jail into our town. Goffstown is a community of families and neighbors — not the right place for a county correctional facility. Add your name.

What’s Being Proposed

The county has its eye on Goffstown.

Hillsborough County is weighing county-owned land off Route 114 in Goffstown — between Saint Anselm Drive and Mast Road — as the site for a new, roughly $285 million jail to replace the aging Valley Street facility in Manchester. The plan would bring a 356-cell, 485-bed correctional facility, plus a 70-bed community corrections center, into our town. It is one of three options the county is studying, and the Goffstown Select Board is now reviewing it.

Why This Matters

Goffstown deserves a real say in its own future.

A decision this large should not be made behind closed doors. Here is why residents across town are standing together in opposition.

The Wrong Place

Goffstown is a growing residential community of families, small businesses, and neighborhoods. A county correctional facility belongs where it fits the surrounding land — not in the heart of our town.

Residents Deserve a Voice

The people who live here should have full transparency and a genuine seat at the table before any site is chosen — not a decision handed down after the fact.

Real Costs to Our Town

Traffic, infrastructure, emergency services, and the long-term impact on property values and community character all fall on Goffstown taxpayers and families.

Better Options Exist

The county should exhaust every alternative that does not place this burden on a single town before ever asking Goffstown to carry it.

A Message from Rep. Joe Alexander

I stand with my neighbors against moving the county jail to Goffstown.

Goffstown is my home and the community I have the honor of representing. Our residents have made themselves clear, and I share their concerns.

I will keep fighting to make sure Goffstown’s voice is heard, that this process stays transparent, and that our town is not chosen without the full and open consideration it deserves. Adding your name tells the county exactly where our community stands.

Our Town, Our Character

The Goffstown we protect.

From Main Street to the Uncanoonucs, Goffstown is defined by its neighborhoods, its families, and its small-town character. Those are exactly the things worth protecting — and exactly what this decision puts at stake.
